The Fishin' Pig. That's the unique name of this Norfolk restaurant. When I visited it under the recommendation of a friend, I was impressed by the rustic atmosphere and the spacious eating area of what looked to be a warehouse.

Address: 119 W 25th St, Norfolk, VA 23517

The vibe was what I would call the "happy trucker" as if that was how it was designed; a low key, down to earth, hang out rest stop for truckers or even bikers, and yet, it was family friendly and very welcoming.

Sports fans would be quick to notice the flat screens behind the bar showcasing the games, but there were also tables and chairs spreaded out ready to accommodate families.

Also, with its various windows, the restaurant really did take advantage of the natural lighting coming in from the outside.

With country music added to the whole vibe of the restaurant, this place would definitely get you in the mood to order some barbeque.

What did I get?

The G-Burner’s Smoked Beef Brisket #2, of course!

Taking my brother’s advice, I asked for wet brisket;. The server said that they were stored in such a way so the brisket was kept moist and I noticed that it certainly wasn’t dry when it was served on my table. Tender and fatty, even the fat had that buttery taste like any brisket should and it was such a delight to eat! It was complemented with flavorful homemade slaw and red potatoes and macaroni.  There were also two buns.

I decided to take some of the brisket and put it inside those two buns with macaroni and bbq sauce and, with all of it combined, I had a very excellent and tasty brisket sandwich!

The ribs were tender and were  also packed with flavor which made it very easily devoured!

Now, I thought the barbeque was impressive, but the apple cobbler was a scene stealer! There was not one bitter apple piece in the bunch. The temperature was just right. It wasn’t too cold or even scolding hot! The sugar was at the right balance of sweetness and not too overwhelming! It could also be possible to say that it was the best apple cobbler I had in my life, so far, and the cook came out and met with us and he said he made it himself! Indeed, eating that cobbler felt like drinking hot coco in a pleasant winter afternoon sitting next to a cozy fireplace. It was that comforting! It was an excellent example of comfort food!

Another friend offered me a sample of his chocolate slice of cake and it was also quite good! The flavor was very pronounced! Not bland at all!

If you’re around Downtown Norfolk and if you’re in the mood for barbeque, then come inside The Fishin’ Pig. Nice spacious atmosphere and really good quality barbeque and dessert!
